In 2005 the race was known as the Batman Begins 400, in 2004 it was the DHL 400, 2003 saw the Sirius 400 after the 2002 name of Sirius Satellite Radio 400. Miller was long a sponsor of the race, from 1984 through 1998. The race follows the Pocono 500 and is followed by the Dodge/Save Mart 350. The 2006 winner of the race was Kasey Kahne, who ousted the 2005 champion of Greg Biffle. Ryan Newman followed Kurt Busch's 2003 win.

The first race took place in 1969 and covers 400 miles in 200 laps around the Speedway. Formerly known as the Michigan Speedway from 1996 to 2000, the two-mile tri-oval track is known as a “sister track” to California Speedway and Texas World Speedway. It is one of the fastest tracks because of its wide corners and long straightaways. It is also held in high regard because of the wide racing surface and high banking.
