The NASCAR Auto Club 500 is a Nextel Cup race that takes place at the California Speedway in Fontana, California.

It first started in 1997, and is a 500 mile race that covers 250 laps. It was formerly known as the California 500 Presented by NAPA until 1999, and the NAPA Auto Parts 500 from 2000-2002. Preceded by the Daytona 500, it is followed by the UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400. The race takes place in late February. Prior to 2005, the Auto Club 500 took place in May. The NASCAR Realignment took place in 2005 and moved the placement of the race. The corporate sponsor is the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The 2007 Auto Club 500 winner was Matt Kenseth, who took home the win for the second consecutive year. Greg Biffle won in 2005, following Jeff Gordon's 2004 win. Kurt Busch won in 2003, becoming the youngest driver, at 19, to win a NEXTEL Cup Series race. The California Speedway is a D-shaped oval that covers two-miles in its loop. In 2003 the Indy Racing League set the highest average speed of any other motorsports circuit event at the California Speedway.
