Because of the popularity of the contest, it will be continued for 2008. Held on a Saturday night in early May, it covers 300 miles in 400 laps. It was formerly known as the Richmond 200, Richmond 250, Richmond 500, Richmond 400, Miller High Life 400, Pontiac 400, Pontiac Excitement 400, Chevy American Revolution 400 and Crown Royal 400.
Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400 is preceded by the Aaron's 499 and followed by the Dodge Avenger 500. The race was formerly a daytime event, the weekend after the Daytona 500 in February. In 1991 lights were put up in the facility. It wasn't until consistently cold temperatures and a 1989 snow delay that officials decided to change the race to May or June. By 1999 a fixed race date was set, moved from Sunday afternoons to Saturday nights. Past winners include three-time winner and 2006 champion Dale Earnhardt, Jr. His father Dale Earnhardt Sr. won the race three times as well.
