It is a 400 mile race, with 267 laps. The first race was in 1998. It has formerly been known as the Las Vegas 400 and the CarsDirect.com 400 in the 2000 season. The 2006 winner of the UAW Daimler-Chrysler 400 was Jimmie Johnsons, who also won in 2005. Matt Kenseth won for two consecutive years prior in 2003 and 2004.

Since its opening in 1996, Las Vegas Motor Speedway has broken attendance records regularly. March 2-4, 2001 set a Nevada record for over 275,000 fans who attended the NASCAR events that took place during those days, including the UAW-Daimler Chrylser 400. Over 140,000 fans attended the race in 2003 and 2004. The tri-oval track has 12-degree banking at all turns, three-degree banking on the backstretch and nine-degree banking on the front.

There is new construction overlooking the front straightaway, as of the 2004 race, with a 22,000-seat grandstand. There is room for 106 teams in the air-conditioned garages. The Speedway is considered the crown jewel of auto-racing. It is a 1,600-acre complex that brings new meaning to the word "entertainment."
