The race first appeared in 2001, and is a 400.5 mile race that encompasses 267 laps. It was formerly known as the Tropicana 400 from 2001-2004. United States Gypsum sponsors the race. It follows the Pepsi 400 and is followed by the Lenox Industrial Tools 300. Past winners of the race include Jeff Gordon in 2006, who won after 405 miles and 270 laps due to a green-white-checker finish. Since its start, the race has held the place of the 18th race of the season.

In its six years of existence as of 2007, five different drivers have won the race. Kevin Harvick won consecutively in 2001 and 2002. The last lap of the 2006 race resulted from a spin out by Jeff Gordon against Matt Kenseth. Kenseth had caused Gordon to do the same thing weeks earlier at the Bristol 500, but claimed that his actions were not in retaliation for the previous spinout. The race is held in mid-July each year and is a relatively new race to the NASCAR circuit.
